Patagonia Expedition Race - Team GNC Profile

Esta vez como Team GNC, junto a Victor Gonzalez. Team GNC – what good sports! By Jacqueline Windh Víctor and Diego ran a really good race – finishing within the top four every day, and in second place overall. It is the first time that they have raced together, and they showed up in good condition, well trained, and with all of the appropriate equipment – completing every section quickly and, more importantly, safely. But on top of all of that, they are just two great guys! If I were the organizer of this event, I would have given them a good sportsmanship award. They helped out other teams – most significantly on the final day, when they lent equipment to URUGUAY’s Ruben and Verónica (who were in trouble on that last cold night-time hike) and also looked out for the teenagers from team QUETRO, slowing down to travel with them for a while on a portion of that same hike. They were also great to travel with in the buses, good company, again sharing food, GNC vitamin supplements, and even a tin of beer with their fellow passengers, and helping out those of us who do not tolerate the cold so well. Their wives, Paulina and Caty, also travelled with us all, working hard as race volunteers – womanning checkpoints, filming, and making us all hot food. And now, after the race, Víctor and Diego have set up a trust fund for fellow racer Verónica Bravo, who is in hospital with frostbite for at least a week, and who will not be able to travel home from Punta Arenas for at least three weeks. These guys are not only good racers, they are very caring and considerate people, always looking out for others. It has been a pleasure and an honour to get to know them.
